Near the beginning of our trip today we crossed the James River by ferry within site of the Jamestown Settlement.
You know you are definitely in the south when the bumper sticker on the truck in front you reads –
Fighting northern aggression since 1861
We took the advice of Trip Advisor tonight and headed for the local recommended fish restaurant. Fifteen minutes later our GPS took us to their door only to discover that they were closed due to a renovations glitch. So we settled for the next nearest recommended dining spot and dutifully followed the GPS directions which indicated a right hand turn into the Beau Rivage Homes and Golf Resort along Beau Rivage drive which in turn became a maze of curving streets that all ended in cul de sacs or locked gates. We finally managed to retrace our route by following the blue line that indicated where we had already been. Somehow we found our way without even a cross word exchanged between us. Once back on the main road we couldn’t find the 2nd choice restaurant even though the GPS said we should be there.
So we asked the sweet silver gray haired lady at Go Gas who indicated it was directly across the street but had a new name due to a change in ownership. She instead recommended a fish restaurant three lights down the road just beyond the BP gas station. This we found without a problem although by that point McDonald’s was beginning to sound good.
