So our travel day – 8 hours on the road – ended surrounded by family. Nice.
Marsha and Karen It was really hard to leave New Orleans and Karen’s wonderful home this morning. We had been there for 12 glorious days. Deciding to find accommodations in a private real neighborhood instead of staying in a hotel was made easy with Airbnb.com. We were really lucky to have decided on Karen Dolan’s home. I know that we have already written bits and pieces about our “rooms” and about Karen and her home but it’s just that now that we have left we have a greater appreciation for what we experienced. We did have to make one final stop at Satsuma’s Cafe for coffee and one of their incredible muffins. We have been going to Satsuma for coffee and something for breakfast -- an omelet muffin, fruit & yogurt. They had really inventive and healthy food -- as well as bacon... We got to recognize and be recognized by some of the people who worked there. On our last morning, I asked several of the people we had seen several times for a parting photo. They were great! When we were on the road and headed for Chattanooga we just couldn’t face a night in a hotel and we wanted to share some of our experiences. So we came up with the brilliant idea of spending the night in Atlanta. Although my brother was somewhat taken aback when I called and inquired about accommodations for the night he recovered nicely and we had a lovely evening with Larry and Suzie. For the past year they have been working toward getting their house ready for sale so they can move into a condo more appropriately sized for just the two of them. So this visit is probably the last time we will stay in their home as it goes on the market next week. It was a good decision to stop to see them.
